There is a functional hood scoop that brings in half of the air for the engine, while the rest of the air comes in through the grille. The five-link coil suspension was designed to maximize a combination of ride comfort and handling on all surfaces. Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the standard electronic-locking rear differential.Īlso special to the TRX are front and rear 2.6-inch Bilstein Black Hawk performance shocks, designed to “provide fast reaction time, unbeatable damping and improved heat dissipation for traversing harsh terrain at speeds greater than 100 mph,” Ram says. It has a Dana 60 solid rear axle with a 3.55 ratio, with floating hubs and axle-hop damper for improved traction and axle control on rough surfaces, the company says. TRX also comes with a special suspension with active damping, which Ram says was “inspired by desert off-road racers.” Elements include high-strength forged-aluminum front upper and lower control arms with special caster and camber angles ![]() It has a full-time active transfer case that’s designed to handle the extra torque. In our tester, the transmission shifted flawlessly and right on cue, during both normal and performance driving conditions. Power is distributed through a high-capacity TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, which gives the Ram TRX a top (electronically limited) speed of 118 mph. The TRX has a new high-strength steel frame that Ram says increases the truck’s stability and durability, allowing it to outperform all of its competitors. It’s quite rugged as well, and capable of going just about anywhere with its standard four-wheel drive. This truck is about more than just power, though, the manufacturer says. We can also assure everyone that there is plenty of power for whatever one might want to do with this truck, including off-roading, desert-racing and trailer-towing. We didn’t have a track to run our TRX on, and we weren’t about to take it to 100 mph on a public highway. ![]() After driving the TRX for a week, we can attest to the validity of the zero-60 claim, but we didn’t try the zero-100 test.
